White House Hikes Tariffs on Chinese Imports | Business Matters (Sept. 13)

The federal government on Friday implemented steep tariff hikes on Chinese imports. The measures include a 100 percent tax on electric vehicles.

The White House says the tariffs will strengthen protections for strategic domestic industries from Chinese production.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative said the taxes include a 100 percent duty on Chinese EVs, 50 percent on solar cells, and 25 percent on steel, aluminum, EV batteries, and key minerals.

The agency said the tariffs would go into effect on Sept. 27.

A group of investors are pushing back against the proposed sale of FarfetchFTCH 0.0%, the luxury fashion marketplace and technology platform, to the South Korea-based e-commerce marketplace company Coupang.
